HOW CAN THERAPY HELP?
Do you feel stuck in your life,or that you keep repeating the same patterns and problems? Or have you experienced a loss in a relationship, or a big change at work?
This can lead to feelings of sadness, anxiety, stress or depression.
Or perhaps you feel very anxious, without really knowing why. This can be quite disturbing. Counselling can help you clarify your thoughts and feelings. It gives you a place to think about how your past affects your present. There is time and a safe place for you to allow your real feelings to arise, and be recognised. Counselling can help you explore ways of approaching the future with more awareness and greater understanding of yourself, and your relationship with others.
This can help you to see more clearly the choices you have in your life, and that you may be able to make choices that bring greater satisfaction.
Counselling and Psychotherapy are confidential and provide a safe, supportive and
non-judgemental way of looking at personal issues.
I will work with you on the areas you want to understand and improve, including:
HOW I WORK
I work with different approaches aiming to help you understand and grow in ways helpful to you.
If you want to focus on current difficulties, we can look at what is happening with your thoughts, feelings and actions in the situation. We can look at the interactions between these, how they relate to the wider aspects of the situation, and any possible changes that may be helpful.
If you are concerned about issues from earlier in your life,we might spend time allowing your feelings and thoughts about these issues to become acknowledged. The aim would be to help you "work through" the experiences, gaining more awareness and understanding of yourself, to help reduce the impact of the emotional pain of the past on your current life.
DREAMS IN THERAPY
Dreams can seem surprising, strange, even nonsensical; or simply dismissed as "left-overs" from daily life. Although dreams may make use of daytime experiences, I have found that dreams can often give clients helpful information in the counselling and psychotherapy. I see our night-time dreams as often coming from a deeper place in ourselves than is available to our "day-time" selves. If you would like to, we could look at any dreams which seem important to you, as part of the work in therapy.
I believe that we are each a unique and complex expression of life, and I will work with you to help you explore and express more of your reality.
If you have, or may have, Asperger's Syndrome, I can offer a calm and non-judgemental approach.
